This growth reflects the UAE’s prominent position in global aviation, supported by the country’s top rankings in air transport infrastructure.
UAE carriers have made impressive strides in expanding their global footprint. Emirates, with its extensive network, now operates flights to 144 destinations across six continents. Etihad Airways, with 79 destinations, plans to grow its network to 125 by 2030, capitalizing on its strategic position between Asia and Europe. flydubai and Air Arabia have also expanded significantly, serving 125 and 218 destinations respectively, while Wizz Air Abu Dhabi connects to 40 destinations. To meet the growing demand for air travel, UAE airlines are not just adding destinations but also expanding their fleets. Etihad Airways increased its fleet to 93 aircraft by mid-2024, while flydubai plans to add seven new aircraft by the end of the year. Emirates is modernizing its Boeing 777 fleet as part of a $3 billion investment. These expansions are expected to boost passenger volumes significantly, with the General Civil Aviation Authority forecasting 140 million passengers by year’s end.
The UAE’s airlines’ expansion is bolstered by the country’s strong standing in global aviation. The UAE ranked first globally in the ‘Quality of Air Transport Infrastructure’ in the World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Development Index 2024. The country also leads the MENA region in the number of operating airlines and air transport agreements. This recognition underscores the UAE’s commitment to maintaining its leadership in the aviation sector, ensuring that its airlines continue to connect the world efficiently and effectively.
